What is Shibboleth?
Shibboleth is a procedure for distributed authentication and authorization for web applications (e.g. databases) and for individual access to protected online resources outside the university. Shibboleth makes it possible to use various web applications with a single sign-on (SSO). Login via Shibboleth is only possible for members of the university.
How to Login with Shibboleth?
- The starting point is always on the page of the provider whose content you want to access
- The login process differs from provider to provider
- On the provider's website, select “Login”, “Institutional Login”, “Campus Access”, “Log in via Shibboleth” or “Shibboleth Login” if necessary
- For some providers, the region/membership/federation must be specified first. This is German Higher Education & Research (DFN-AAI).
- Then select the institution (HTW Berlin, Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin, HTW, University of Applied Science Berlin, ...) and click on “Log in via Shibboleth” if necessary. Forwarding to the green login page of HTW Berlin
- University data (e.g. Moodle, webmail) must be entered on the HRZ page. When logging in for the first time, accept the terms of use (overview of the transferred data is displayed)
- Then access is the same as at the university.
- Advantage: you usually remain logged in if you do not delete the cookies
