Results of the Library User Survey
Results of the Library User Survey
The library is in demand as a place of learning - this was the result of the user survey conducted by the university library in summer 2023. A total of 793 surveys were completed. All members of HTW Berlin and users of the library were surveyed using the evasys survey tool.
Most users come to the library to study individually or in groups, less often to borrow a printed book. They value a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. Workstations with the option of using their own laptop are considered important and very important by 77% of respondents, while workstations with permanently installed PCs are less important to them. The responses made it clear that our users would work more in small groups if more group workstations were available. The existing group study rooms are not sufficient.
Research terminals and library information services are also considered important and very important by more than half (67.6%) of respondents, as are services such as interlibrary loans (55.7%). In general, electronic media are seen as more important than printed media, and demand for e-books is particularly high. However, it also became clear that some users are not sufficiently informed about the library's services.
The training courses offered by the library are considered important and very important by more than half of the respondents, with virtual training courses being rated slightly higher than on-site training courses. Training courses on reference management programs are particularly popular.
Of the respondents who consider the current opening hours to be inadequate (49%), most would welcome extended opening hours or service hours, particularly in the evening. Extended opening hours at weekends are also desired.
Some wishes have already been fulfilled. For example, the opening hours on Saturdays have been extended to 12 - 6 pm.
