OPUS Publication Server
The University Library offers HTW members the opportunity to publish their academic papers free of charge in electronic form on the OPUShtw publication server and thus make them searchable on the Internet and in the library catalogues. The library's services include the addition of metadata and permanent archiving.

What do you need for the publication?
- Your document to be published (either send it to the library or upload it yourself)
- Filling out the electronic form (on the OPUShtw website under the tab "Publish")
Publishing a document in OPUShtw
Click on the "Publish" tab on the start page. To upload a document, you have to carry out the following three steps in OPUShtw.
1. Uploading the document(s) and the declaration of consent
- Activate your VPN client so that you are recognised as a university member.
- Select the document type that best suits your document.
- You can upload your document directly below. If you click on "Upload another file", a field will appear directly below in which you can see the uploaded document. If you wish to upload further documents, repeat the same process via " Choose file" and "Upload another file" to confirm.
- In the next field, click to confirm that you have read and agree to the rules of usage and do not harm the rights of other by uploading the doucument to our server. The library beas no liability.You agree to this licence agreement and policy, if you upload.
2. Enter metadata for the document
Now comes the actual form. Various data about your publication (so-called metadata) is requested here, which is used for description in catalogues and other bibliographical directories. Use the category provided to describe the document you wish to publish. Some of the fields are mandatory and must be filled in by you. Please be as precise as possible!
For example, the following details are collected:
- Title of the publication
- Language
- Brief description of the content of your document
- Date on which the document was or will be published.
- The licence under which you wish to publish your document (to be selected from a list)
If you do not know what to enter in a particular form field, please move the cursor over the input field. An explanatory help text will be displayed.
3. verification of the information and finalisation of the publication process
To complete the data entry, your details are displayed again and you have three options:
- you can correct the details of your document
- finalise the publishing process or
- cancel the entire process.

Can I make documents available to the public at a later date?
Yes, there is a field in OPUShtw in which the publication date can be entered.
Can I upload files to OPUShtw from anywhere in the world?
Documents can only be uploaded within the campus network. If you are not on campus, please activate your VPN client so that you are recognised as a university member and are able to use the service.
Which types of documents can be published?
- Scientific articles
- Preprints

- Theses (up to grade: 2; with restricted access from the university network)
- Part of a book
- Teaching material
- e-tutorial
- Audio contributions
- Lectures
- Contribution to a (non-scientific) newspaper or magazine

Who takes care of the documents?
The university library checks the documents and metadata.
